Changing Gang Behavior From The Inside Out®

In the history of gang violence-extending back as far as the late 1700's in America, there have been "programs" created by governments to address the violence concomitant with the, gang lifestyle. The "programs" have taken on various forms such as, after school programs, or what I call "recreational escapism", legislation, and even incarceration.

Though these tactics presented society and communities with forms of a solution for gang violence-as programs do-they did not address the gangs functionality-for in the face of said programs gangs not only grew to a staggering membership of approximately 1.4 million in 2011-but gang violence continues to claim the lives of not only gang members but also innocent civilians.

The word "program" is defined as "a planned series of future events, items, or performances". Or "cause (a person or animal) to behave in a predetermined way".

We have not the luxury to continue to invest money and or resources into "programs"-for though they take on and present to the onlooker the "form" of addressing gang violence-they do not produce measurable results.

What must be done is that we-as a society-must invest in a "process" that addresses not only the social aspects of gang violence-its "form"- its behavioral manifestation-but we must also address the psychology out of which destructive gang violence emanates.

The word "process" is defined as "a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end".

N'STEP®'s Gangology 101©: The New Paradigm Curriculum is a "process" that addresses both the sociological and psychological aspects of the Structural Gang Culture mores and norms through its nine (9) steps, which contextualizes sociological and psychological stimuli that the gang member can stand on the periphery of his/her perceived reality, and become an active component of not only the diagnosis, but also the panacea for their destructive life choices.

The N'STEP®'s Gangology 101© "process" acknowledges that the solution to gang violence starts with the gang member, and by addressing the internal stimuli(thought processes)-superimposed by an Avoidant-Insecure Attachment, and violent traumatic gang experience, which becomes incessant memories, an aspect of Post Traumatic Gang Syndrome©(PTGS), as well as external stimuli such as sociological and environmental elements that cultivate an "in group and out group" form of "group think"-which dehumanizes individuals and other gangs- we effect the behavior of the gang member and the functionality of the gang.

Our Curriculum-through its nine (9) steps-inculcates a series of actions and thought processes for the gang member to employ, such as Recognize, Identify, and Transcend© (RIT), and Managing The Gangsta©- enabling the gang member to contextualize emotions, triggers, and anxieties, instead of reacting improperly-which informs a commensurate action to both external and internal stimuli-ameliorating the functionality of both the individual and the group.
